Captain Sheila Patterson, USN, and the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) command staff will sponsor NSF Dahlgren's 17th Annual Industry Day & Small Business Opportunities Fair on Wednesday, 21 May 2008 at the Dahlgren Navy Base. The theme for this year’s event is “The Way Ahead for Aegis and Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense.”

Highlights for this year’s event include:

  • Keynote address by Scott Perry, Director of Strategic Planning, Communication, and Alignment for Aegis BMD.
  • Warfare Systems Department (W) to host a breakout session focused on transitioning legacy contracting efforts into the SeaPort-e Multiple Award Contract environment.
  • "Small Business Myths Debunked!" Breakout Session.
  • Contracting opportunities related to Aegis and Aegis BMD.
  • Opportunity to meet NSWCDD Department heads and leaders.

The Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (Aegis BMD) is the sea-based element of the U.S. Missile Defense Agency’s Ballistic Missile Defense System. Its primary role is homeland defense against air, surface, and subsurface threats. Last fall, Aegis BMD moved from Washington, DC to a new $33M building on the Dahlgren base.

The Dahlgren base saw eight new commands added in the past year, bringing the total on-site workforce to more than 8,000. Numerous tenant commands are co-located with NSWCDD, the most significant of which are the Joint Warfare Analysis Center (JWAC), Aegis Training and Readiness Command (ARTC), and Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (Aegis BMD).

This event is sponsored by the Base Commanding Officer and the Deputy for Small Business, Naval Surface Warfare Center, and is co-sponsored by the National Small Business Council (NSBC), the Government Emerging Technology Alliance (GETA) and the National Contract Management Association - Dahlgren Chapter (NCMA).
