Mr. Steven Mabeus
Principal Deputy Director, Terrorism Screening Center, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)
Mr. Steven Mabeus is currently detailed to the Terrorist Screening Center (TSC) with duties as the Center’s Principal Deputy Director. Before arriving at the TSC, Steve was assigned to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Office of Intelligence and Analysis.
At DHS, he served as a Deputy Director and became the SES Director for the Department’s Homeland Counterterrorism Division in 2011, the largest analytic division in I&A. In this role, he was responsible for providing the DHS Secretary, Deputy Secretary and the Department Staff with counterterrorism threat assessments and support for Departmental programs, plans, and counterterrorism actions.
Before beginning his federal government career, Mr. Mabeus served as a U.S. Army Military Intelligence Officer. He achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel while serving in the U.S. Army for more than 21 years in assignments at the battalion, brigade, division, and army level in Germany, Hawaii and at Fort Carson, Fort Leavenworth and Fort Belvoir.
As an intelligence officer, Steve held positions of company commander, battalion operations officer and division plans officer in the 1st Armored Division and 25th Infantry Division (Light) respectively. His military career culminated with the Special Operations Command which included a tour in Afghanistan.
Mr. Mabeus is a graduate from the Joint Military Intelligence College where he earned a Master of Science in Strategic Intelligence in 1994. His undergraduate degree was awarded from the University of Wisconsin in 1984.
Steve is an avid cyclist and competes in triathlons in his spare time. He is married with two children.
