Controller
National Conference Services, Inc. (NCSI) located in Columbia, Maryland, is actively seeking a hands-on Controller to oversee the financial and accounting operations of a company with $8-$10 million in annual revenue. NCSI caters to some of the largest defense and intelligence agencies in the government and we take pride in being able to offer the best service from an incredible team of people. Our event staff plan, market, and produce over 50 annual on-site tabletop Technology Expositions and conferences all over the United States and Europe. This is a hands-on position with the ability to have a direct impact on company success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Accounting & Financial: Manage and perform all accounting operations including billing, collections, A/R, A/P, F/A, GL, as well as forecasting and reporting.
- Cash Flow Management: Monitor and report on cash flow.
- Closing: Perform monthly and annual closing routines including GL account and bank reconciliations.
- Internal Controls: Maintain and strengthen internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with GAAP.
- Tax & Compliance: Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting and work with external CPAs for year-end tax filings and/or audits.
- Contracts & Agreements: Oversee contracts, terms & conditions and coordination with customer counterparts.
- Strategic Support: Provide leadership and coordination to maximize efficiency, quality control and customer service.
- Problem Solving: Seeking a resourceful, confident, professional communicator and problem solver.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA or CMA is a major plus.
- Experience: 5+ years of progressive accounting experience; at least 2 years in a Controller or Assistant Controller role.
- Industry Knowledge: Previous experience in events, tradeshow, conference or professional services is highly preferred.
- Software: Proficiency in mid-market accounting software (Momentus/Ungerboeck is a plus) and advanced Excel skills.
- Attributes: Leadership, team-player, follows direction and positive attitude are essential. A hands-on approach is a non-negotiable.

- U.S. citizenship
The annual salary for this position is $60,000 – $90,000 commensurate with experience.
In addition, NCSI provides health insurance (individual premium 80% employer paid) as well as optional dental, vision and flex spending. Employer paid life and disability insurance is also provided. NCSI offers a 401k plan that includes matching contributions. Sick, holiday, floating holiday and vacation time is also offered.
